Next up for Obama: amnesty for illegal aliens

Fresh off the Obamacare fiasco, which appears mortally wounded, President Barack Obama is making noises about “immigration reform.” As we know from experience, immigration reform is liberal code for extending American citizenship to millions of illegal aliens.

I’ll say this for Obama; he has a knack for going straight for our throats.

Nobody knows how many illegals are here. For years, the government has pegged their population at 12 million, as if the number of “undocumented workers” is static. It could easily be 20 or 30 million by now. Every year, some 425,000 births are to an illegal alien mother. These so-called “anchor babies” are awarded U.S. citizenship and guarantee the parents won’t be deported. We cover the cost through higher taxes and insurance premiums.

We probably won’t know the actual number of illegals even after the 2010 Census. Obama, in a move of staggering arrogance, has seized control of the Census from the Commerce Department and installed it in the White House. Specifically, he has handed control to his chief of staff, Raum Emmanuel, a fierce partisan infighter best known for sending dead fish to his political enemies, Mafia style. Emmanuel will make sure that illegals are counted just like actual citizens, to push increased congressional representation to illegal-heavy states, such as California and Illinois.

By going for citizenship for illegals, Obama is seeking to bolster his voting base for the 2012 presidential election. He knows that Hispanics voted for him in overwhelming numbers in 2008; the millions of new “citizens” he envisions could be expected to do the same.

Obama also knows that if we legalize 12 million illegals (a conservative estimate), they will bring in family members from Mexico, China and other countries responsible for the alien invasion. If history is any guide, each one would bring in three or four relatives. Thus, those 12 million new citizens could multiply into a permanent population increase of 48 million to 60 million, and Democrats would have an enduring electoral majority.

By packing the country with tens of millions of poor, uneducated and unskilled people, the great “progressive” dream of full-blown Marxist socialism would be within reach. Is there any doubt how Chellie Pingree would vote? The U.S. congresswoman from Maine’s 1st District is blindly loyal to Obama and Nancy Pelosi.

Obviously, the American people – now awakened to Obama’s true agenda – will fight back against amnesty. Some 80 percent oppose it. They will look at the fallout of a massive population surge on our overloaded cities and overwhelmed schools. They will weigh the impact on our energy consumption, water supply, health care system, air quality, food availability, species habitat and dozens of other issues. They also will consider the huge problem of violent immigrant gangs that have proliferated in recent years. See California for details.

We need immigration reform, but not like this. It’s time for a rational discussion of the population issue. We have 310 million people now, up from 200 million on the first Earth Day, in 1970. Do we want 500 million? How about a billion? Where does it end? We already bring in two million to three million legal immigrants every year. At a time when 36 million Americans are unemployed, and more are laid off daily, does that make any sense?

Would it not be reasonable to declare an immigration time-out while we try to solve our existing problems, such as creating jobs for Americans? We need 150,000 new jobs every month just to keep pace with immigration, but now we’re told that this will be a jobless recovery. What will all these new immigrants do? Until 1965, when the late Senator Teddy Kennedy strong-armed through an Immigration Reform Act, all immigrants needed a sponsor so they would not burden taxpayers. Now they go on welfare, but state budgets are busted and the national debt is approaching $13 trillion. How long can we afford this before the lifeboat sinks?

We also need to examine the so-called “diversity visa” program. Diversity visas, another Kennedy legacy, are designed to encourage immigration from countries that do not send significant numbers of immigrants. We issue 50,000 a year.

The State Department roster of all countries whose nationals have received diversity visas for 2010 shows they come from such places as Cape Verde, Suriname and French Guiana. But 72 will come from Yemen, a terrorist hotbed. In fact, we have awarded 1,011 diversity visas to Yemini nationals since 2000, the year 17 American sailors were killed when Muslim extremists attacked the USS Cole.

But it gets worse. Much worse. For this year, the State Department has handed out diversity visas to people from four countries listed as state sponsors of terrorism. We will be taking in 98 from Syria, 298 from Cuba, 1,084 from Sudan and 2,773 from Iran. How can we be certain they pose no threat?

The Christmas Day “crotch bomber” who tried to blow up a jetliner over Detroit had a two-year, multiple-entry visa from the State Department. They failed to revoke it even after the U.K denied him a visa and after it was learned he trained with terrorists in Yemen. The State Department can’t be trusted, and this diversity-visa program is too vulnerable to immigration fraud. It should be eliminated.

Obama’s immigration reform would be ruinous for America and before anyone trys to throw down the racist card into the discussion, this has nothing to do with race what so ever. Simply put we need reform that makes sense for us – for our culture, our security and our way of life.
